INTERNET MLM VOICE BOOM
Boom! The MLM Internet Recruiting World Changed!
The MLM WatchDog - Rod Cook Bs, MA, MBA
In June of this year I reported in Network Marketing Lifestyles (see www.mlmconsultant.com/mlmlibrary) the 4 million new people that had entered the wonderful world of NetWork Marketing via Multi-Affiliate Marketing. We derived this by tracking over 800 companies and their growth. We then used Baye's theorem to statistically quantify the numbers. That was 90 days ago, a full Internet year!
We knew that the Internet referral marketing was changing. The Surf Programs (paid to watch ads) had made Multi-Affiliate (No money to join or collect commissions) Marketing hot. Affiliate Programs were hot. However change was in the wind. Viral marketing programs were acting funny. Ad rates on the Internet dropped like a rock! Surf programs starting dying rapidly. Internet based MLM weren't booming to match the drop in Multi-Affiliate programs.
We intensified our study of Internet MLM and Multi-Affiliate models. What the major shift was. Reports from recruiting professionals indicated that online "direct" recruiting was dropping. In 1995-96 I used the web to help a client put in 28k buying distributors (out of 80k signups) into a free signup MLM. That model was now Internet DOA. Newer models were also fading - the 20,000 affiliates I signed up, in two weeks, for one client was history now.
Boom! Change Confirmed
Boom! On October 18, 2000 the World Wide Web change was confirmed! Amazon.com sent me a catalog! When cashflow poor monster, Amazon.com lays out big bucks to mail slick catalogs you know an epiphany has occurred! Back the old U.S. Mail to drive buying traffic to the net! Note I use the word buying, not "free" the "mantra" of the Internet.
There was a direct shift going on. A bright spot was that one post card, mailed to a list of computer opportunity seekers, pulled a 7% card to Internet response rate. Wow! Good reports came that phone follow-ups were closing people for programs requiring the expenditure of money for product or services. For a report on this see the Library at http://www.mlmconsultant.com/mlmlibrary.htm
Back to the phone?
Are we back to the telephone (Internet phones included) to recruit? The answer is yes and no. For companies requiring the monthly purchase of a product to collect commissions the answer is yes. For companies that are pure affiliate programs (no consideration to join or collection commissions) the answer is maybe! Why? Jupiter Communications, a leader in tracking Internet marketing trends, reported that by the end of 2001 a full 25% of the goods and services will be sold by some form of free affiliate marketing. The competitive clutter for a prospect's attention is getting massive!
Back To The Basics
It is my prediction (98.6% correct over the years) that winners who build at "sticky system" will use a "back to the voice" system. To be certain it will be an Internet hybrid - but the core will be the use of the human voice person to person. Why? About 50,000 years ago our cave dwelling ancestors developed a full-flowing spoken language. Language developed from grunts to speech for survival! The spoken word was the only way the older generations could pass hunting and survival information to the young.
During the last 60 years radio, television and now the Internet have developed as the dominant transmitters of knowledge (augmenting school education). Beyond the written media, electronic media tried to transmit knowledge. Unfortunately much of this knowledge became known as advertising. People learned not to trust advertising! The suspicion level on the Internet is higher than TV. How to overcome this? Person to person communication by voice! Forming a personal relationship for "economic survival" is powerful. Use It! Part 2 to follow: Hybrid Internet recruiting
